Electronic prescribing, or e-Prescribing, is the electronic transfer of prescription information from a health care provider to a participating retail or mail order pharmacy.
Why e-Prescribing?
e-Prescribing significantly improves patient safety by helping to reduce medication errors. It allows providers to access key information about a patient’s medical history, applicable formulary and potential drug interactions at the point of care. By e-Prescribing, prescriptions can be assessed for dosage, drug interactions and duplication at the actual time of prescribing.
e-Prescribing also speeds up the time it takes to process medication refills, resulting in greater convenience for members, health care providers and pharmacists.
