Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia and Radio Disney Announce 'Get Active Get Fit!' School Challenge Winners

ATLANTA—Feb. 7, 2012—Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia (BCBSGa) is pleased to announce the winners of the Get Active, Get Fit! School Challenge. The 20 Georgia schools with the highest percentage of participation in the program have won a live dance party at their school hosted by Radio Disney, WDWD AM 590.  Five schools were also awarded new gym equipment packages valued at $500 for being the first to sign up and complete the Challenge.

The Get Active, Get Fit! School Challenge was designed to motivate kids and families to achieve fitness together by engaging in fun activities. In 2011, the second year of this collaboration, the Challenge was completed by more than 45,000 children at 91 Georgia elementary schools.

The winners of the live dance parties at their schools are:

2. Brookview Elementary, East Point, Fulton County
3. Crabapple Crossing Elementary, Milton, Fulton County
4. Dacula Elementary, Dacula, Gwinnett County, Feb. 29, Time TBD
5. Dunleith Elementary, Marietta, Marietta City
6. Edgewood Elementary, Oak Creek, Muscogee County
7. Fairmount Elementary, Rome, Gordon County
8. Hubbard Elementary, Forsyth, Monroe County, Feb. 15, 10 a.m.
9. Kennesaw Charter, Kennesaw,  Cobb County, Feb. 17, 8:30 a.m.
10. Marlow Elementary, Guyton, Effingham County, Feb. 22, 1 p.m.
11. Matthews Elementary, Midland, Muscogee County, Feb. 14, 9 a.m.
12. Medlock Elementary, Johns Creek, Fulton County, Feb. 8, 12:20 p.m.
13. Odum Elementary, Odum, Wayne County, Feb. 16, 1:15 p.m.
14. Peoples Elementary, Fayetteville, Fayette County
15. Sand Hill Elementary, Carrollton, Carroll County, Feb. 9, Noon
16. Social Circle Elementary, Social Circle, Walton County

The five schools who won new gym equipment packages valued at $500 are:
• Whitesburg Elementary, Whitesburg, Carroll County
• Stonewall Tell Elementary, College Park, Fulton County
• Edgewood Elementary, Oak Creek, Muscogee County
• Bethlehem Elementary , Locust Grove, Henry County
• St. George Elementary, St. George, Charlton County
“I participated in the Dance Party celebrations last year and look forward to attending again this year,” said Morgan Kendrick, President, BCBSGa. “It is truly amazing to see how many schools participated in this year’s challenge – they are all winners! We are thrilled with the continued success that Radio Disney’s ‘Get Active Get Fit!’ program has experienced in engaging Georgia’s children in healthy fitness activities.”

Nearly 500,000 students nationwide signed up to participate in this year’s Get Active, Get Fit! School Challenge in Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, New Hampshire, Ohio, Upstate New York, Virginia and Wisconsin.
